Downtown Charlie Brown Goodwill Christmas Party

Mars Hill Church | Downtown campus is having the first annual “Downtown Charlie Brown Goodwill Christmas Party” December 20 @ 6pm.

MHC | Downtown wants to take this opportunity to spread love and cheer as it serves the neighbors of Belltown and your town in the Spirit of the Christmas season. MHC | Downtown is partnering with various social service/ministries by providing donations as a means to serve the Belltown neighborhood. And the angel said to them “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10,1.

What to expect:
Come and take pleasure in live Christmas beats and seasonal treats with a bit of the Wassail to sip. Of course bring the kiddos for mixin’ and minglin’ as we will have a gala of fun for them to enjoy – maybe with a special Christmas guest…

What to bring:
Please see below on what items to bring as donations. Click on the agency to learn more.

  • Millionair Club (serving men): Needs frozen turkeys, hams, toiletries, socks and tee shirts

Mars Hill Bookstore Needs YOU!

stack-of-books.jpgThe MH bookstore is desperate for volunteers to man it on Sundays, particularly at the 8:30 pm service. It’s a job that would be perfect for someone who attends the 8:30, because you can work before and after, but still attend the service. The only requirement is that you are a member of Mars Hill. Please contact Alex Layton: alex@marshillchurch.org.

Don’t forgo the ‘c’allings in search of the ‘C’alling – H-Flo’s thoughts

After our discussion on “calling” about a month ago, I talked with Shandel and we came up with some more definitive thoughts.  None of this is great insight from us, but I think gets us closer to how God would have us see our “callings” in this world.  I’d love your thoughts on it as we continue the dialogue and the quest for following and serving Him with our lives.

First, we all probably use the word “calling” a bit too liberally and people end up thinking it is something that they MUST FIND…so they end up seeking “calling” instead of seeking the Lord.  This we must guard against!!

Second, I think the Lord does have a “Calling” (capital C calling) for each of us individually that pertains to our vocation and/or our ministry service, but not much else.  In this case, Calling means (this is a loose, not well researched, Heather Flodstrom definition–so don’t put stock in it!) a direction from God to us individually about what we’re supposed to do or how we’re supposed to operate for the Kingdom.  That Calling should encompass at least some of our spiritual gifts, and we should be rockin’ when we’re working/serving in it.  (I continue to have a question about whether this type of Calling can change as we move through life and I’m pretty sure the answer is yes…but it will be interesting to see as life progresses.)

Third, I know that ALL of us have “callings” (small c callings) and those are spelled out throughout the Bible and are the directives of how we’re supposed to live as Christians, i.e., honor your father and mother (Exodus 20:12), love one another (John 13:34), provide for your family (1 Timothy 5:8), spread the gospel (The Great Commission – Matthew 28:19-20), honor one another above yourselves (Romans 12:10), etc.  There are MANY of them and these are things that we are ALL ‘called’ to do as Christians and we must live them out everyday.

If that all makes sense, then I think the answer to my question about whether we have calling in all areas of our lives is yes–but they’re not capital-C Callings in all areas–some are small-c callings that transcend all areas of our lives.  AND, (a wise piece of wisdom from Shandel) we must make sure that we don’t forgo living out our small-c callings ALL the time in order to live out our capital-C Calling.  Because if we’re not operating on the foundation of being a Christian, then it doesn’t matter if we are doing what God has given us as our individual direction in work/ministry/life.

So….if you don’t feel like you know your individualized capital C Calling for your life, don’t worry and don’t spend a lot of time seeking it out.  Instead, SEEK THE LORD (Jeremiah 29:13) and spend time in the Word learning and then living out all of the small c callings that you have on your life (James 1:22).  That will glorify Him!!

Greetings from Romania!

I’m doing great… been traveling lots in Romania for a week now, just got back from a trip two hrs away from Suceava (a city in NW Romania). I spent today with Frank Bullock from Child Life and his assistant Mihaela. Today we visited poor families in a beautiful town, they gave away firewood blocks and I gave away teddy bears and chocolate to the kids. They were so cute.

I’m off tomorrow to spend time with family one last time before I head south to the really poor areas with gypsies where I’ll be working with Jerry from Caleb MInistries in Seattle giving away my VitaMeals and getting to know the people and situations down there. I can’t wait to see what I’ll see and pray for God to prepare the way. It’s a lot of travel involved, at least 8 hrs by car or train but I’m excited. The sites are gorgeous here especially in the mountains. Wish you could see….

I’m thinking of you all and love you,

 Ligia
